The Department of English Language Teaching at Muş Alparslan University (MAUN ELT) has successfully completed an international Virtual Exchange Project in collaboration with the University of Regensburg (Germany) and the Arab Academic College for Education in Haifa (Palestine).

The project was initiated and coordinated by Dr. Samed Yasin Öztürk, Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Education, Muş Alparslan University, and was implemented within the scope of the course Sustainable Development and Education with sophomore ELT students. The project lasted for 10 weeks and brought together prospective English teachers from three different countries in a meaningful global learning environment.

Throughout the project, students:

  • -Participated in international icebreaker sessions,
  • -Compared education systems across countries,
  • -Collaborated on designing English lesson units based on one of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs),
  • -Engaged in critical dialogue through the framework of Critical Virtual Exchange.

The project aimed to foster students’ Intercultural Communicative Competence (ICC) while raising awareness of global challenges and sustainable development through education. Students not only improved their English language and communication skills, but also developed global citizenship awareness and pedagogical design competencies.

This international collaboration contributes directly to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Quality Education (SDG 4), Gender Equality (SDG 5), Reduced Inequalities (SDG 10), and Climate Action (SDG 13), demonstrating how teacher education can play a transformative role in building a more sustainable and just world.

The project stands out as one of the most meaningful and impactful international academic initiatives conducted within MAUN, providing students with a strong global perspective on their future profession.
